Marriage between people of different nationalities is becoming increasingly common. These marriages can present specific challenges as one spouse (or both if they reside in a third country) may feel some level of marginalization.  Good awareness of differences and openness to negotiate are usually required. At the same time, the particular richness of these marriages can foster more flexible family relationships, a deeper understanding of one’s values, and an attitude of curiosity and respect. Therapy can help, particularly around times of transition.
